REA Reports Progress on $750M Solar Projects in Nigeria

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA), under the leadership of Managing Director Abba Aliyu, confirmed substantial progress on the $750 million solar projects funded by the World Bank. These projects are designed to enhance electricity access for 17.5 million people in Nigeria.

The REA reported that several milestones have already been achieved across multiple project sites, including the completion of cast mount support bases at four out of ten project locations. The projects aim to replace 280,000 polluting generators with solar mini-grid home systems, thereby bridging the energy gap in rural and peri-urban areas.

Aliyu highlighted that the successful completion of clusters in Gabasawa Local Government Area, Kano State, marks a critical stage in the development of decentralized renewable energy systems. The REA remains committed to delivering quality and sustainable electricity solutions, with the next phase expected to include the installation of solar panels and associated infrastructure to improve power supply for households and small businesses.
