REA Commissions 1MW Clean Energy in FCT Communities

On February 12, 2026, the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in partnership with the Republic of Korea successfully commissioned a 1MW clean energy infrastructure project in the Rubochi and Ikwa communities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This project includes a 900 kWp solar hybrid facility in Rubochi and a 100 kWp system in Ikwa, operational through three strategically located mini-grids.

The initiative aims to provide stable and reliable electricity to households, small businesses, schools, and healthcare facilities, with approximately 2,500 households in Rubochi connected to reliable power and 300 connections recorded in Ikwa. The project is designed to enhance local economic activities, create jobs, and improve educational environments.

Key figures such as Zaki Rubochi, Nyesom Wike, and Abba Abubakar Aliyu emphasized the importance of renewable energy in alleviating energy poverty and supporting socio-economic transformation. The Korean government, represented by Namgoong Tak, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration, highlighting its role in Nigeria's electrification agenda.
