REA Deploys 200+ Mini-Grids in 2025, Targets 1,350 Power Projects for Rural Electrification

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in Nigeria has deployed over 200 mini-grids in 2025 and aims to implement 1,350 power projects by the end of the year. The agency's Managing Director, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, revealed this during a media briefing in Kano.

The projects are focused on enhancing reliable and sustainable electricity supply, especially in rural and off-grid communities. REA has made significant progress in renewable energy deployment, with plans to reach an estimated 17.5 million Nigerians through the installation of mini-grids.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently approved a $750 million project to expand access to renewable energy across the country.
