REA and Lotus Bank Partner to Boost Renewable Energy Funding in Nigeria

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in Nigeria has collaborated with Lotus Bank to introduce a renewable energy funding facility, with the goal of expanding access to clean energy across the country. The partnership involves establishing a dedicated fund to finance the distribution and scaling of renewable energy solutions under the DARE program.

The initiative follows a high-level meeting signaling a shift in project funding structures to accelerate energy access nationwide. Abba Aliyu, the Managing Director of REA, emphasized the need for a deliberate approach by Lotus Bank to meet global fund targets and drive rapid renewable energy development.

The partnership aims to create a standalone financial window dedicated to renewable energy deployment, leveraging international standards to facilitate quick expansion in rural and peri-urban areas. The collaboration is part of a growing trend among Nigerian financial institutions recognizing renewable energy as a commercially viable sector.

The initiative is expected to mobilize private sector investments to bridge Nigeria's energy access gap and ensure sustainable financing for clean energy projects.
