Omokri Declares Real-Time Election Results Unachievable

Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, asserted on Thursday that no country in the world currently operates a real-time electronic transmission of election results. His remarks were a response to criticisms regarding the amended Electoral Act 2026, which was recently assented to by President Bola Tinubu.

During a press conference in Abuja, Omokri addressed opposition leaders who have rejected the new electoral law, emphasizing the need for reforms to ensure greater transparency, including real-time electronic transmission of results. He challenged prominent opposition figures to provide evidence of countries successfully implementing such systems.

Omokri argued that the perception of real-time transmission in Nigeria is often based on media projections rather than official results released by electoral bodies. He cautioned against over-reliance on early projections, citing historical precedents, and expressed his support for the principle of electronic transmission while maintaining that its real-time implementation remains impractical at present.
