UNDP and Ministry Launch Nigeria's Regional Development Policy

The Ministry of Regional Development, led by Stella Oduem, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has commenced a series of zonal technical validation workshops across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. This initiative aims to refine the draft of the National Regional Development Policy (NRDP) for the period of 2026-2030.

The workshops are described as the final phase of nationwide consultations, bringing together stakeholders from federal and state governments, regional development commissions, local government authorities, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector. Engr.

Abubakar Momoh emphasized that the NRDP will provide a comprehensive framework to address regional disparities and promote inclusive national development. Ms.

Elsi G. Attafuah noted that the policy reflects a significant shift towards a people-centric approach.

The zonal workshops are scheduled to take place from May 11 to June 10, 2026, with a national consolidation meeting planned for June 24, 2026, in Abuja.
