NWDC Partners with States for Regional Development

The Minister stated that regional development commissions, specifically the Northwest Development Commission (NWDC), are designed to complement state governments rather than compete with them. During an event in Kano on Thursday, the Minister, Momoh, highlighted the importance of these commissions in filling infrastructure gaps and responding to pressing challenges in the region.

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf donated land valued at 3 billion naira and two official vehicles to support the establishment of the NWDC's permanent headquarters. This initiative aims to demonstrate unity among the seven northwest governors in tackling insecurity and underdevelopment in the region.

The governors of Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi appealed for additional funding to support development efforts. The NWDC's Managing Director, Professor Shehu Abdullahi Ma Aji, praised the donation as a significant milestone and expressed hope for the swift construction of the headquarters.

Plans to amend the commission's establishment act to strengthen its management structure were also disclosed.
