NSDF Endorses Safe Corridor for Insurgency Rehabilitation

The Nigeria Security Development Forum (NSDF) has endorsed the federal government's Safe Corridor initiative, highlighting rehabilitation as a key strategy to combat insurgency in Nigeria. During a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, NSDF Secretary Victor Success emphasized the need for Nigeria to move beyond military victories to achieve long-term stability through non-kinetic measures.

He praised Chief of Defence Staff Olufemi Oluyede for his forward-thinking leadership that integrates military operations with rehabilitation efforts. The forum welcomed the recent graduation of rehabilitated former fighters from the Safe Corridor program, describing it as a significant breakthrough for Nigeria's peacebuilding efforts.

The NSDF noted that successful deradicalization programs, similar to those in Saudi Arabia, Denmark, Singapore, and Pakistan, have proven effective in countering violent extremism. The forum also stressed the importance of transparency, community engagement, and support for victims, urging the government to strengthen safeguards to maintain public trust in the rehabilitation process.
