DHQ Clarifies CDS Remarks on Operation Safe Corridor

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of Nigeria issued a statement to counter misinformation circulating on social media regarding remarks made by Chief of Defence Staff Olufemi Oluyede about "Operation Safe Corridor." Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, emphasized that the viral claims misrepresent Oluyede's comments and mislead the public, potentially harming national security efforts. The DHQ clarified that "Operation Safe Corridor" is not an amnesty program but a structured deradicalization, rehabilitation, and reintegration initiative aimed at low-risk former combatants who voluntarily disengage from insurgency.

The program has successfully screened hundreds of individuals since its inception, contributing to intelligence gathering and weakening insurgent networks. The DHQ reaffirmed its commitment to neutralizing threats and protecting law-abiding citizens, stressing that the military remains a professional institution guided by law and doctrine.

They urged the public to disregard misleading narratives and support ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across the country.
