Nigeria Faces Tough Heats at 2026 World Relay Championships

The World Athletics organization has released the heat list for the 2026 World Relay Championships scheduled to take place in Gaborone, Botswana. Nigeria has been assigned to a difficult group across several relay events as the country aims to secure qualification for the 2027 World Championships.

In the men's 4x100m event, Nigeria will compete in heat 3 alongside teams from India, Poland, Brazil, China, South Africa, Ghana, and Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The women's 4x400m team will participate in heat 1, facing competitors from Brazil, Germany, Spain, France, Jamaica, and the Czech Republic.

Additionally, Nigeria's mixed 4x100m relay team will compete against teams from Portugal, Ukraine, Italy, Canada, the Netherlands, and Germany. The mixed 4x400m relay team will race in heat 2 against China, Poland, the Netherlands, Japan, Jamaica, and Canada.

According to the competition format, the top two teams from each heat, along with the next two fastest teams overall, will qualify for the finals, securing automatic qualification for the 2027 World Athletics Championships.
