Defence Minister Musa Advocates Local Weapon Production

On Friday, Maj. Gen. (retd.) Christopher Musa, the Minister of Defence, stated that Nigeria's reliance on imported weapons is prolonging its security challenges. He made these remarks during the inauguration of the TETFund Centre of Excellence in Security Management, named the “CG Musa Security Management Hub,” at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Musa highlighted that addressing insecurity requires informed policies, credible institutions, technological innovation, and an understanding of the human dimensions of conflict. He noted that local production of weapons is essential, as difficulties in accessing necessary arms and ammunition contribute to ongoing insecurity.
Musa pointed out that international conflicts have made it increasingly difficult to procure military supplies. He called for collaboration between defense institutions and academic centers to enhance security policies through research and innovation.
Prof. Kayode Adebowale, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, expressed gratitude for the establishment of the center, aiming to make it a hub for security research in Africa.
