FG Begins Payment of Salary Arrears to Doctors Nationwide

The Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated the payment of outstanding salary arrears to doctors across the country, following a review of the consolidated medical salary structure. According to a message from Abdulmajid Ibrahim, the Secretary of the Association of Public Social Secretaries, payments have already begun and are expected to cover six months of arrears.

Some doctors have confirmed receipt of these payments, indicating that the disbursement process is ongoing in various centers. However, it was noted that some doctors have not yet received their payments and are advised to remain calm as the disbursement will continue until all eligible members are covered.

The payment for the August portion of the arrears may take a little longer due to administrative issues causing a two-week delay. The adjustment in the salary structure has previously led to strikes by resident doctors, who play a crucial role in Nigeria's tertiary healthcare system, amid ongoing concerns about unpaid wages and poor working conditions.
