Shehu Warns Leaders of Accountability in 2027 Elections

Mahdi Shehu has issued a warning to religious and traditional leaders in Nigeria, stating they could be held responsible if the 2027 general elections result in violence. In a post shared on social media, Shehu criticized these leaders for their increasing involvement in partisan politics, suggesting that they have shifted their focus from promoting peace and national development to pursuing personal gain.

He accused them of hypocrisy, alleging that while they preach peace publicly, they support divisive actions behind the scenes. Shehu emphasized that their behavior undermines moral authority and weakens their ability to promote unity, particularly during election periods.

He urged these leaders to reflect on their roles and prioritize the well-being of the nation over material interests, warning that they will face consequences if peace is compromised during the elections.
