Renaissance Africa Energy Advocates for Energy Transition

During the International Energy Week in London, Toni Attah, the Chief Executive Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy, called for global support for an African-led energy transition. He stressed the importance of prioritizing energy access alongside decarbonization, noting that Africa should shape its own transition pathway.

Attah highlighted Africa's energy paradox, where despite holding around 40% of the global solar potential and 9% of proven gas reserves, 600 million Africans lack access to electricity, and 850 million rely on traditional biomass for cooking, contributing to 800,000 premature deaths annually due to indoor air pollution. He pointed out that Africa's transition should anchor industrial power generation and economic growth.

Attah also mentioned the rapid growth of Renaissance Africa Energy since its acquisition of Shell's onshore shallow water assets in Nigeria, which has increased oil production to 100,000 barrels per day and supplied 2 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day. He urged African governments to provide regulatory certainty to unlock long-term capital from international lenders and to pursue commercial balance in collaboration with global partners.
