Herve Renard Reappointed as Ivory Coast National Coach

Herve Renard has returned as head coach of the Ivory Coast national football team, as confirmed by the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) on Tuesday. The 57-year-old Frenchman replaces Emerse Fae, who guided the Elephants to their third Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in 2024.

Renard previously led the team to victory in the 2015 AFCON final against Ghana. Fae leaves after achieving significant milestones, including leading Ivory Coast to the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they were eliminated in the last 32 by Norway.

Despite these accomplishments, the federation decided to make a coaching change as they prepare for the next AFCON and the 2030 World Cup qualifying cycle. Renard, known for his success with multiple African national teams, including Zambia and Morocco, will now focus on preparing Ivory Coast for the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign, with his first competitive match against Ghana scheduled for September.
