Omokri Denies Mexico's Role in Nigeria's Drug Issues

Reno Omokri, the ambassador-designate of Nigeria to Mexico, addressed concerns regarding claims that Mexico is transforming Nigeria into a drug hub. He characterized these allegations as misleading and damaging to the longstanding relationship between the two countries.

Omokri stated that the actions of a few individuals should not define the bilateral relations, which have been maintained for decades. He emphasized that both nations share a common position against criminal activities and expressed that neither country wishes to protect criminals.

Omokri pointed out that there are approximately 50,000 Nigerian citizens residing in Mexico compared to a small Mexican population in Nigeria, highlighting the need to avoid generalizations in criminal cases. He warned that such claims could negatively impact trade and investment opportunities and urged the media to focus on strengthening diplomatic and economic ties rather than promoting damaging narratives.
