Study Reveals 42% of Nigeria's Informal Sector Struggle to Survive Without Monthly Income

A new study by Moniepoint Microfin Bank has unveiled that 42% of Nigeria's informal sector operators lack sufficient savings to survive beyond a month without income, emphasizing the financial vulnerability of millions of small businesses across the country. The report, part of the second edition of Nigeria's Informal Economy Report, is set to be officially launched in Abuja.

The study received support from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, SMEDAN, and other stakeholders. Nigeria's informal economy, which accounts for 80% of employment and drives major economic activities, serves as a vital bulwark against poverty.

Babatunde Olofin, Managing Director of Moniepoint, emphasized the importance of the report in guiding policymakers and financial institutions to strengthen formalizing informal enterprises.
