Nigeria Leads Global AI Usage with 91% Weekly Engagement

A Boston Consulting Group (BCG) report reveals that Nigeria leads 44 surveyed countries in weekly artificial intelligence (AI) usage, with 91% of respondents interacting with AI tools at least once a week, significantly surpassing the global average of 64%. The BCG Digital Government Citizen Survey highlights that 80% of Nigerian respondents consider themselves familiar with AI, compared to a global average of 63%.

While 61% believe the benefits of AI outweigh its risks, satisfaction with government digital services has declined by five percentage points from 2024 to 2026, now at 64%. Olayinka Majekodunmi, managing director and partner at BCG, noted that Nigerians are increasingly demanding higher quality in government online services.

The report also indicates that 46% of respondents are concerned about job losses due to AI adoption, with calls for public performance reporting and independent audits to ensure accountability. The findings suggest a need for government institutions to address public anxiety regarding AI's impact on employment and decision-making.
