Reps Committee Threatens NILDS DG Over Contempt Allegations

The House of Representatives Committee on Legislative Library, Research and Documentation has threatened punitive measures against Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, the Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), for allegedly participating in the 2026 All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Kwara State without resigning from his position. The committee, chaired by Hon. Yusuf Shittu Galambi, expressed dissatisfaction with Sulaiman's repeated failure to honor invitations to appear before it, stating that his absence disrespects Parliament and could lead to sanctions.

Hon. Galambi noted that Sulaiman had been invited on three occasions—June 18, July 24, and a third unspecified date—but did not attend. The committee believes that his refusal to defend himself against the allegations implies he has something to hide.

Consequently, they resolved that the allegations against him stand and will proceed to submit their findings and recommendations to the House. Hon. Galambi emphasized that public office holders must comply with laws regarding political participation.
