NILDS Advocates Ethical Leadership for Nigeria's Democracy

At the launch of the Leadership for Equity, Advocacy and Development (LEAD) Fellowship in Abuja, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, the Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), stated that Nigeria's democracy requires investment in ethical leadership before individuals enter public office.

Sulaiman described the fellowship as a significant investment in ethical leadership, democratic resilience, and inclusive governance. He noted that NILDS has evolved into a national center for democratic capacity development, policy innovation, and leadership development.

The fellowship is a collaboration involving the Gender Mobile Initiative, the Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Student Engagement, with support from the Open Society Foundations. Ms.

Omowumi Ogunrotimi, Executive Lead of the Gender Mobile Initiative, highlighted the fellowship's goal to connect student leadership with governance opportunities, inspired by a female student leader's concerns about post-graduation prospects.
