Reps Committee Enhances Oversight in Oil Sector

The House of Representatives committee on petroleum resources midstream, led by Chairman Odianosen Okoji, has pledged to intensify legislative scrutiny of Nigeria's midstream petroleum sector. This commitment was made during a recent legislative retreat in Port Harcourt and Lagos, where lawmakers reviewed the sector's challenges and discussed measures to strengthen parliamentary oversight under the Petroleum Industry Act.

The committee plans to conduct oversight visits, including to Greenvil LNG and Indorama Petrochem Ltd, to assess compliance with operational frameworks. Okoji stated that the committee seeks to engage directly with stakeholders to understand the industry's realities better.

Following a visit to Indorama Petrochem Ltd, the committee recognized the company's significant contributions to Nigeria's petrochemical industry and passed a formal vote of confidence in its operations. The committee aims to address infrastructural inadequacies, regulatory disputes, and security concerns affecting the sector, emphasizing the importance of the midstream segment in ensuring reliable energy supply and competitive industrial feedstock.
