Nigerian House of Representatives Summons Officials Over Missing Agriculture Fund Records

The House of Representatives in Nigeria has summoned the Auditor-General, Federal Ministry of Finance, and Federal Ministry of Agriculture over missing records of agriculture funds from 2015 to 2025. Lawmakers expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of comprehensive audit reports covering agricultural subsidies and intervention programs.

The committee investigating the missing funds stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in public spending, especially in the agriculture sector amid rising food prices and insecurity. The Deputy Director of the Auditor-General's Office cited delays in completing audits due to the failure of the Ministries of Agriculture and Finance to provide essential documents.

The House also discussed legislative reforms, including amending electoral laws and reviewing the constitution, to enhance governance and promote national development.
