Nigerian House of Representatives Committee Demands IGR Records from Agricultural Institutions, Threatens Budget Defense Stall

The House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture, led by Chairman Hon. Abiodun Akinlad, has issued a directive to agricultural institutions to submit their Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) records within 24 hours during a budget defense session.

Failure to comply may result in the suspension of the 2026 budget defense. The committee emphasized the critical nature of the budget defense process, urging agencies to justify their budget proposals and provide details on the implementation of previous budgets.

Concerns were raised about the non-release of capital funds to agencies in 2025, impacting their performance. The committee also stressed the importance of agencies contributing to revenue generation plans and increasing IGR.

The institutions were given a 24-hour ultimatum to comply with the IGR record submission, highlighting the significance of effective revenue utilization.
