Reps Push for AfCFTA Domestication to Boost Trade

On Monday, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen expressed his commitment to enhancing the ease of doing business in Nigeria during a public hearing organized by the House Committee on Commerce in Abuja. He emphasized the need to eliminate regulatory bottlenecks and attract investment to promote sustainable economic growth.

The proposed bills, including the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Domestication Bill, are intended to strengthen Nigeria’s commercial framework and maximize opportunities within Africa’s single market. Speaker Tajudeen, represented by Deputy Chief Whip Rep Isiaka Ibrahim, stated that the bills would undergo rigorous public scrutiny to ensure they align with global best practices.

He noted that these legislative initiatives support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by providing a legal framework for economic reforms. Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr.

Jumoke Oduwole, urged lawmakers to expedite the passage of the AfCFTA Domestication Bill, highlighting its importance for Nigeria’s competitiveness in continental trade.
