Nigerian Reps Probe $4.6bn Health Grants Scandal Involving EFCC and ICPC

The Nigerian House of Representatives has initiated a probe into the handling of a $4.6 billion health grant received by Nigeria from 2021 to 2025 from global health organizations like the Global Fund and USAID. The investigation aims to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of the funds, as concerns were raised about the high prevalence of HIV, AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria in Nigeria despite the significant funding.

The probe involves scrutinizing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to trace fund utilization and identify any misuse. Additionally, the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) will undergo restructuring to enhance oversight and coordination of health projects.
