Reps Panel Summons 6 FCT Area Councils Over N100bn Financial Infractions

The House of Representatives panel has issued summons to six FCT area councils, including Abaji, Abuja Municipal, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali, over N100 billion financial infractions. The Auditor General's report highlighted various breaches in financial regulations, such as failure to remit taxes, improper accounting of expenditures, and inadequate asset management.

The audit revealed outstanding liabilities totaling N7.65 billion as of December 31, 2021, including unremit pension deductions, unpaid capital project obligations, and unremitted VAT. The report also noted significant discrepancies in expenditure breakdowns and poor asset management practices across the councils.

Rep. Bamidele Salam, the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in managing public funds, warning that officials found culpable will be held accountable according to the law.
