House Committee Demands Better Oversight of TVET Programme

The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Polytechnics and Higher Technical Education has urged for stronger engagement with the Federal Ministry of Education to improve oversight of Nigeria's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme. This call was made during a meeting in Abuja with Minister of Education Dr Tunji Alausa, following months of unaddressed correspondence from the Ministry.
The committee, led by Chairman Mr. Fuad Kayode Laguda, had previously summoned the Minister in July and issued a final summons in August due to the Ministry's lack of response. During the meeting, Alausa apologized for the oversight, attributing it to a communication breakdown caused by the transfer of a desk officer.
He assured the committee of improved cooperation and communication. Laguda emphasized the need for a comprehensive understanding of the TVET programme to evaluate its implementation and ensure effective resource deployment.
Alausa noted that the current administration has prioritized technical education to combat unemployment and enhance skilled manpower in Nigeria.
