House of Representatives Advocates for Technical Education

During a one-day public hearing on a bill to amend the Federal Technical College, Nasarawa Burkullu, Zamfara State, Hon Abubakar Hassan III, representing the 10th House of Representatives, reiterated the need for a shift from valuing certificates to prioritizing skills in Nigeria. He highlighted the current imbalance where graduates are produced without corresponding job opportunities, stating that the global economy rewards skills and problem-solving abilities rather than degrees.

He pointed out that nations like China, Germany, and South Korea have advanced by investing in technical and vocational education. The House has made skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment a legislative priority, aligning with the federal government's agenda on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The proposed bill aims to close the skills gap in Zamfara, enabling youth to pursue careers as electricians, welders, builders, and more, thereby contributing to national stability and economic growth.
