Reps Warn Agencies Against Ignoring Investigative Invitations

The House of Representatives' ad hoc committee, chaired by Mr. Kolawal Akinlayo, has issued a stern warning to the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA), Nigeria Customs Service, and other relevant agencies regarding their failure to respond to invitations for an investigation into the performance and benefits of port concessions. The committee, inaugurated on February 3, 2026, aims to examine the terms and conditions of concession agreements from 2006 to 2025, assess revenue flows, and review compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations.

Akinlayo expressed frustration over the agencies' lack of cooperation, particularly noting that the Nigeria Customs Service has not fully complied with requests. The committee has threatened to invoke constitutional powers to compel agency heads to appear, including issuing summons or fines, and warned that continued non-compliance could lead to arrests.

The committee emphasizes the importance of transparency and accountability in managing public assets, particularly in the context of Nigeria's strategic infrastructure.
