Germany Offers Two Routes for Nigerians to Secure Opportunity Card

Germany has announced two distinct routes for Nigerians and other third-country nationals to apply for the Opportunity Card, a residence permit aimed at skilled and qualified individuals seeking employment in the country. This card is part of the German Residence Act.

The first route allows applicants who can demonstrate full equivalence of their foreign qualifications to apply without additional conditions, provided they can financially support themselves during their stay. The second route requires applicants to hold a recognized foreign university degree or a vocational qualification of at least two years, along with basic German language skills at the A1 level or intermediate English proficiency at the B2 level.

Additionally, applicants must accumulate a minimum of six points from various criteria, including qualifications, language skills, professional experience, age, and any existing connections to Germany. This structured pathway enables African professionals, particularly Nigerians, to explore employment opportunities in Germany without needing a job offer prior to arrival.
