NARD Strike Issues Resolved Through Gbajabiamila's Intervention

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) reported that the intervention of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has substantially addressed the issues behind their ongoing strike. Dr Mohamed Usman Suleiman, President of NARD, made this announcement following a meeting at the State House in Abuja, which included key officials such as the Ministers of Labour, Health, and Finance.

The National Executive Council of NARD will decide on suspending the strike after further consultations. The meeting established timelines for resolving salary and promotion arrears at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) within one week.

Additionally, it was agreed to recruit more house officers and ensure timely salary payments. Dr Suleiman noted that while there are outstanding allowances from the Federal Government, the liability is lower than initially estimated.

The Chief of Staff also directed the Ministries of Labour and Health to expedite the Collective Bargaining Agreement for inclusion in the 2027 budget and to enhance safety measures for healthcare workers.
