Flooding Crisis in Badia, Lagos Due to Blocked Canal

Residents of Badia in the Apapa Local Government Area of Lagos State are experiencing significant flooding, which they attribute to a blocked canal caused by ongoing construction by a pharmaceutical company. This situation, which began in September 2025, has reportedly put no fewer than 5,000 residents at risk of displacement.

The flooding has forced families to abandon their homes, with many seeking temporary shelter elsewhere. Community leaders, including Raymond Tejujay, have expressed concerns about the health risks posed by stagnant water and the impact on local businesses.

They have called for urgent intervention from both state and federal governments, particularly for ecological support measures. Residents have accused the construction company of failing to implement adequate drainage systems, leading to the blockage of the canal and subsequent flooding.

The situation has worsened with the onset of the rainy season, and community members have made attempts to engage with the company but have been unable to reach top management.
