Residents of Ajao Estate Demand Action on Flooding Issues

Residents of Ajao Estate, Lagos State, are voicing their concerns over ongoing flooding issues and an abandoned drainage project. Olusegun Fowora, chairman of the Ajao Estate East Community Development Association, highlighted that the flooding has persisted for years, with the situation worsening since 2007 due to poor drainage planning.

Despite repeated appeals to the government, including letters to various agencies, the drainage project, which was supposed to be executed by a contractor, has been poorly managed and was abandoned after initial work began in January 2025. The flooding has submerged parts of the area, affecting residential buildings and leaving vehicles trapped due to open trenches.

Residents have called on the state government to compel the contractor to return and complete the project. Olu Isijola criticized the long-standing neglect of the estate, which is in proximity to the airport and various institutions, emphasizing the lack of proper drainage solutions.
