Double Bomb Attack Hits Maiduguri Market, Casualties Feared

On Monday, around 7:20 PM, a double bomb attack struck the Maiduguri market in Borno State, specifically targeting the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH). The Borno State Police Command, through spokesperson Nahum Kenneth Daso, confirmed the incident via a post on social media.

Joint security operations were initiated, with police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units deployed to the scene. Eyewitnesses reported hearing loud explosions, and injured victims were evacuated to hospitals for treatment.

The head of operations for the Federal Fire Service in Borno State, Moham Kafaran, stated that their team was also dispatched to assess the situation. Residents were advised to remain calm and avoid the area as emergency response efforts continued.

This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Borno State, which has been plagued by insurgent activities, although recent military efforts have reportedly curtailed such attacks.
