Nsugbe Community Appeals for Peace During Monarch Election

The Nsugbe community in Anambra East Local Government Area, Anambra State, is in the process of electing a new traditional ruler, with Mr. Victor Attah, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee established by the Anambra State Government, urging for peace. The state government suspended the Nsugbe Town Union on August 24, 2026, due to various allegations and formed a caretaker committee to facilitate the election.

Attah noted that the crisis stemmed from the traditional stool being zoned to Ivite village. In response to political pressures, the committee decided to eliminate the delegate system, allowing all eligible Ivite residents to vote.

He clarified that there was no court order against the caretaker committee or the state government. However, documents revealed that Justice Jude Obiora issued a preservative order on August 5, 2026, preventing any election until a substantive case is resolved.

Attah called for peace and cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure a smooth election process.
