Residents Appeal for Sukuk Funding Restoration for Imo–Abia Road Project

Residents of Obizi in Imo State and Umunwanwa in Abia State are urging the Nigerian government to reinstate Sukuk funding for the Imo–Abia Road project. The road, part of the 2021 federal government Sukuk bond programme, is crucial for connecting the two states.

While some sections have been completed, a significant portion near the Udo community remains severely degraded, posing safety risks and disrupting trade. Local leaders emphasize the economic importance of the road for the livelihoods of the communities involved.

The call is made for the government to prioritize the completion of the project to unlock its enormous benefits for the region.
