ASUU Strikes Resume at Lagos State Universities Amid Unmet Agreements

Strikes have resurfaced at various state-owned universities in Nigeria, notably Lagos State University, Lagos State University of Science and Technology, and Lagos State University of Education, due to the state government's failure to implement the December 2025 Federal Government-Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) agreement. This agreement included a 40% salary increase for lecturers and other benefits.

In contrast, federal universities have remained stable since President Bola Tinubu's administration increased salaries in January. The ASUU chapter at Kaduna State University recently ended its strike after Governor Uba Sani approved the agreement's implementation, effective October 1.

Similarly, the ASUU chapter at Plateau State University terminated its strike on September 16 after the state government agreed to meet its demands. However, lecturers at three state-owned universities in Ondo State continue to strike over non-implementation of the FGN-ASUU pact.
