UUTH CMD Urges Doctors to End Strike for Patient Care

Prof. Ememabasi Bassei, the Chief Medical Director of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), called on doctors to return to work and end their ongoing strike during a press conference in Uyo on Wednesday.

He emphasized the urgency of resuming medical services to prevent the loss of innocent patients' lives, as the hospital typically serves between 600 to 800 patients daily. The strike was initiated by the Nigerian Medical Association following allegations of financial misconduct linked to an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigation involving Prof.

Effiong Ekp, the Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Council. Bassei stated that the EFCC had not officially communicated any arrest warrant to the hospital management regarding Ekp.

The EFCC denied any invasion of the hospital premises, as reported by its head of media, Mr. Dele Oyewale.
