Army Unveils Coup Plot Against President Tinubu

The Nigerian Army has disclosed a coup plot aimed at overthrowing President Bola Tinubu, revealed during a trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Six individuals, including retired Major General Moham Ibrahim Gana and retired Naval Captain Erasmu Ochegobia, are accused of masterminding the alleged coup.

The investigation began after the Chief of Army Staff received intelligence about the takeover plan, leading to the arrest of Colonel Moham Alhassan and others. Evidence presented in court included a Samsung phone containing sensitive details of the operation, financial records, and plans to target government officials.

The prosecution linked former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva to the plot, which involved significant financial transactions amounting to hundreds of millions of naira. The court has allowed witnesses to testify anonymously due to security concerns, and the defendants face serious charges, including treason and terrorism.

The case is set to continue on May 4 and 5.
