NSC Revives School Football to Honor Henri Nwosu

Malam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), declared the revival of school football competitions across Nigeria as a fitting tribute to the late Henri Nwosu, a former Green Eagles legend. Dikko made this announcement while receiving members of Nwosu's family, who represented Imo State, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

He praised Nwosu's contributions to football, recalling how he rose from school football to become a national hero. Dikko noted that Nwosu's journey from grassroots football to continental glory serves as an inspiration for young athletes.

He emphasized the need to discover and nurture talent through school sports programs, ensuring that Nwosu's legacy is immortalized. Dikko pledged the NSC's support for activities related to Nwosu's burial and called for collaboration with the Imo State government and the Nigeria Football Federation to honor the late football icon.

Nwosu was a member of Nigeria's victorious 1980 Africa Cup of Nations squad and is scheduled to be buried on June 6, 2026, in his hometown of Naze, Imo State.
