Ribadu Strengthens Nigeria-US Security Ties in D.C.

Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser of Nigeria, conducted a three-day working visit to the United States from May 4 to May 6, 2023. During this visit, he engaged with senior U.S. officials, including Vice President J.D.

Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to strengthen the Nigeria-U.S. security partnership. The discussions aimed to deepen cooperation in various areas, including counterterrorism, intelligence sharing, defense collaboration, and regional security.

Ribadu reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to promoting peace, democratic governance, and economic development across Africa, emphasizing the country's role in counterterror operations within the Lake Chad Basin and the wider West African region. The meeting also focused on implementing initiatives under the Nigeria-U.S.

Joint Working Group framework, which includes military cooperation, border security, and institutional capacity building for Nigerian security agencies. Ribadu expressed appreciation for ongoing American support for security assistance and humanitarian efforts, while U.S. officials commended Nigeria's leadership role in regional peace and security efforts.
