ADC Critiques Tinubu Over Rising Food Prices in Nigeria

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized President Bola Tinubu's administration regarding the rising cost of food in Nigeria. In a statement by National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC accused the Federal Government of concentrating on headline inflation figures while Nigerians face difficulties affording basic necessities.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported a slight moderation in headline inflation from 15.91% in June to 15.43% in July. However, the ADC highlighted that food inflation increased from 17.52% in June to 20.31% in July year-on-year, and from 3.75% to 5.56% month-on-month.

The party pointed out that essential food items like rice, tomatoes, onions, pepper, beef, eggs, and garri have seen continued price increases. The ADC linked these issues to a report by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), stating that approximately 35 million Nigerians are facing acute food insecurity, with many children at risk of malnutrition.

The ADC challenged the government to explain the rising food costs if its economic reforms were effective.
