Rivers Assembly Confirms Five Commissioners, Rejects Four

On Monday, the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhul, confirmed five out of nine commissioner-nominees proposed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The assembly conducted a rigorous screening process lasting two hours, during which four nominees were rejected due to poor performance and issues surrounding their qualifications.

The rejected nominees included Professor Datony Alasia, Barrister Tamuno William Otony, Amachre Chariti Deemua, and others. The assembly expressed concerns over the nominees' inability to demonstrate their suitability for the positions they intended to occupy.

Following the screening, the assembly resolved to write to the governor, requesting the swearing-in of the confirmed nominees as soon as possible. The confirmed nominees are Tony Belgam, Professor Templ Nwafor, Dr.

Peter Nwagor, Leku Kenneth Amarigha, and Edward Hart. The assembly adjourned its plenary session on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
