Rivers Assembly Halts Impeachment of Governor Fubara

On Thursday, the Rivers Assembly decided to suspend the impeachment process against Governor Fubara and his deputy. This decision was made during a plenary session in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The assembly had initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy, citing allegations of gross misconduct, including the demolition of the state house assembly complex and the approval of expenditures without legislative authorization. Chief Justice of Rivers State, Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, was informed of the situation and wrote to establish a seven-member panel to probe the governor and his deputy.

However, Justice Amadi declined to cite a court injunction regarding the impeachment process, which has now been halted by the assembly.
