Rivers Assembly Receives Petition to Re-establish Sea School

On a Monday plenary session, the Rivers State House of Assembly received a petition from the Sea School Isaka Alumni Foundation, which requested the repeal of the Rivers State Sports Institute Law, Cap 123, Vol 6. The petition, presented by Deputy Majority Leader and member representing Okrika Constituency, Linda Somiari Stewart, called for the enactment of a new law to re-establish the defunct Government Sea School located in Okrika.

The petition urged the executive arm of the government to rehabilitate and equip the school with modern facilities to enable it to play a significant role in developing human capital necessary for driving the blue economy in Rivers State. Speaker Martin Amaewhul referred the petition to the House Committee on Public Complaints for further consideration.

Additionally, the House received a report regarding challenges posed by blocked drainage canals in the Rumuokwuta and Rumuokeada communities in the Obio Akpor Local Government Area, which has resulted in loss of lives and property.
