Rivers Assembly Summons Heir Energy Over Community Petition

The Rivers State House of Assembly has directed the management of Heir Energy Limited to appear before lawmakers on July 20, 2026, at 10:00 AM. This summons follows the company's repeated failure to respond to invitations from the assembly's Committee on Public Complaints regarding a petition filed by the Omuohia Community in Igwuruta Town, Ikwerr Local Government Area.

The decision to summon the company was made during the fourth legislative sitting of the fourth session of the 10th assembly, as documented in a letter dated July 7, 2026, signed by the Clerk of the House, Dr. Emeka Amadi.

The assembly expressed strong displeasure at Heir Energy Limited's refusal to appear despite several invitations and warned that failure to comply with the summons could lead to the invocation of the assembly's constitutional powers under Section 129 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, amended). The assembly emphasized the need for the company to treat the matter with utmost priority.
