Rivers Assembly Urges Governor Fubara to Address Flooding

The Rivers State House of Assembly has called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to take urgent measures to address the flooding situation in Rivers State, particularly affecting Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas due to persistent rainfall. Speaker Martins Amaewhule made this appeal during a visit to flood-affected communities.

The call for action was initiated by Deputy Majority Leader Linda Somiari-Stewart, who raised a motion during a plenary session to draw lawmakers' attention to the crisis. Following the motion, Amaewhule and other lawmakers assessed the damage in the state capital.

He acknowledged that while some steps have been taken by the government, much more needs to be done to assist the affected populations, stating, “That is why we have a government. That is why we have funds.
