Rivers Police Begin Probe As Officers Beat Civilians For Refusing To Pay ₦1 Million Bribe

The Rivers State Police have launched an investigation after officers allegedly beat civilians who refused to pay a ₦1 million bribe for an expired tinted glass permit. According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Grace, the Commissioner of Police has ordered a probe into the incident.

The victim, Cletus Emmanuel Onyekachi, claimed that the officers stopped him on the road and demanded a bribe, which escalated into violence when he refused to pay. A viral video of the incident showed officers beating and slapping Onyekachi, with one using a whip to inflict injuries.

The Command assured the public of their commitment to professionalism and accountability in policing, emphasizing that the outcome of the investigation will be made public. The Rivers State Police Command is dedicated to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability among its personnel.
