Wike Confirms Fubara Won't Seek Second Term in Rivers

Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, announced that current governor Sim Fubara will not run for a second term in office. This decision follows an earlier agreement that Fubara would refrain from seeking re-election.

Wike disclosed that Fubara did not purchase the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship nomination form, which aligns with the prior understanding among political stakeholders. Wike expressed his lack of surprise regarding Fubara's withdrawal, stating that he should not have collected the form in the first place.

He accused Fubara of failing to demonstrate a gentlemanly initiative by obtaining the nomination form despite the political understanding that had been reached. Wike also mentioned that President Bola Tinubu had intervened several times to restore peace in the state and prevent legislative moves to impeach the governor.
