Nigeria Road Accidents Surge by 9.4% in Q2 2025, Speed Violations Top Cause

In Q2 2025, road accidents in Nigeria surged by 9.4%, totaling 2,631 incidents compared to 2,404 in the previous quarter. Speed violations were the leading cause, followed by factors like phone usage while driving, tire bursts, and vehicle mechanical deficiencies.

The data revealed a total of 1,018 male deaths and 217 female deaths, with males constituting 81% of the fatalities. The South West zone recorded the highest number of crashes, while the North West reported the highest casualties.

The report emphasized the need for enhanced road safety measures to curb the rising accident rates.
